Creative Music Camps
We have been running Creative Music Camps for over ten years.
Creativity is the theme of our camps and we base the whole week on fostering and developing participants’ creativity, awareness, appreciation and joy of music through creative outlets.
While each camp offers new and exciting activities for the participants, the broad outline of a camp is as follows:
The course includes lots of singing, dance, improvisation and group instrumental playing to help foster aural, melodic and rhythmic skills.
The children use tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments and explore pitch and rhythms in controlled activities.
Through the Kodaly method, children explore simple melodies and songs. They work on intonation and internalising rhythms and melodies; keeping a steady pulse; plus recognising high and low, loud and soft, and short and fast sounds in music. Instruments from the orchestra are introduced, giving the children a chance to see, hear and learn about the instruments of the orchestra.
The emphasis is fun and exploration, using music related games and activities helping to stimulate an interest in music making.
Skills developed throughout the course include music reading abilities, aural, pitch and rhythm awareness, music theory (focusing on preparing for the graded theory exams) and performing arts skills.
Composition and ensemble playing are explored, in addition to the children learning various choreographed songs, incorporating the Kodaly method to help develop rhythm, composition, listening, ensemble and performance skills.
With many of the participants working towards both performance and theory ABRSM examinations, the course is designed to help better prepare them for the various facets of these assessments in a relaxed and fun environment.
